Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart visits the Restoration School

On 28 February 2003, Butch Stewart, chairman of Sandals and Air Jamaica, came along to give his support and to see what good work was being done by the Operation Restoration Christian School (ORCS) in Trench Town.

"The beauty of tourism is that it makes all of us realise we are all the same," said Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, to the audience gathered at the Restoration School.

Mr. Stewart explained that he felt it was necessary for children, especially of the economically disadvantaged sphere, to gain experiences external to their daily lives.

"It is the single best way to dig ourselves out of the hole of poverty that Jamaica is in," he said, adding, "It shows youngsters what is possible".

Mr. Stewart said the best thing that happened to him in his own life was spending time in school abroad. He said of his schooling in England, "It opens up your mind to see the way first world people live".

His visit attracted the attention of the islands media and will help increase awareness of the positive impact that Gods work through ORCS is having. Both TVJ and CVM gave their reports Friday evening, The Gleaner gave it a front page photo and a page 2 article on Saturday and The Observer gave it a double-page spread on Sunday.
