Community Outreach Programme

Operation Restoration is more then a school — it is a program that helps to develop the whole community. In addition to reaching out to the indigent, Operation Restoration is actively involved in the peacekeeping process and is often called upon to mediate conflicts.

Our Community Outreach Programme was also one of the original services we offered when we first started our work in these communities. Since then, we have expanded our services to include the following:

Trench Town Youth Fraternity

Trench Town Youth Fraternity was founded by Operation Restoration and includes the most leading men from this community and Operation Restoration is playing a major role in assisting these men to maintain peace. Of significance is the fact that crime and violence have decreased drastically during the past two years with less than ten persons having been murdered during this period.

Currently, Operation Restoration is assisting this group in staging weekly “Marlie-Marlie” cultural talent concerts with a view to sustaining lasting peace by bringing people together in a harmonious atmosphere. These events are also geared to help stabilize the community and it is hoped that their increasing popularity will start attracting tourist to this area made famous by the Reggae superstar Bob Marley.

Operation Restoration is also seeking funding to secure the necessary equipment to assist this group to start a block-making venture that will provide employment for dozens of unemployed young men in the community.

Strong Women of Trench Town

Strong Women of Trench Town (SWOTT) is a club that was founded by Operation Restoration two months ago. Among its objectives are:

  • To empower women in the community to achieve self-reliance; improved self-esteem and life-changing principles. Organize events outside the community that will expose and broaden their outlook.
  • Promote artistic and cultural events to help young people realize their full potential
  • Organize parenting workshops on a regular basis to provide better parenting skills.
  • To bring peace to this war-torn community.
  • Deal with teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.
  • Cater to the indigent and senior citizens in the community by sourcing and providing food on a regular basis to these persons.

A teen parent programme is also being organized to assist young girls with needs they have for their children and to help them to return to school and complete their education.

SWOTT will also be involved in the production of leather-craft items being taught at the school in the Youth off the Streets programme.

The President of SWOTTS is Deborah Folkes, a teacher in the Youth off the Streets programme who is being trained for leadership in the community.

Office/Secretarial Services

Office/Secretarial Services are provided free of charge to the community and our services include recommendations, as well as the preparation of documents that include Resumes, Passport applications. Justice of the Peace services are vitally needed and are regularly provided.
