I
remember when this lady just come to Rema and she was wearing her white
bobby socks and sneakers and her shorts and straw hat. I don’t know
where she come from but I just look up and see her. I was bleaching from
the night before and looking out for enemy and when I look I saw this
lady with two children, left and right.
I never forgot she said to me “good Morning,” and I said “Good Morning. She said she want to keep school in here for the children them to learn. I say to her “Yes, Mother, right thing that because some want to learn for some cannot read and write.” So I ask her “Where you going to keep the school mother.” She said over there at Play Center but I don’t know how she could do that because thereso was dump where everybody come and use as toilet. But she say she don’t mind for she will clean it up.
And then she start walking again looking for children to go to school and she tell the children and their parents to come up to Play Centre next week to school and they don’t have to pay. Round and round she did this. All of a sudden, she pick up one name Jolly Bus. All him never go to school. Miss Lorna go to his yard and bring him to school and now he can help himself and read and write and now him turn big D.J. all a write lyrics for himself.
Miss Lorna, is God send this lady come here right here in this place in Trench Town. She is for the young. The old and everybody and the babies thank God for her. I live in the community for more than 40 years now because I am 47 years and from I live here I never see this yet happen Trench Town. Not even the politician, nor the opposition never do this yet. Is God the Almighty send this lady come here. She come in like she born with us here right now. She even give the children them breakfast if they don’t have any. So if you say them get breakfast you don’t have to mention the other meals behind it.
She is here all seven days a week. And on Saturday she call the little children and give them cream. On Sundays she call Mothers meeting. No fathers, just the mothers and she talk to them.
If we don’t see Miss Lorna come one morning everybody looking out and wonder what happen to her because to how she love the children and the mothers. If they ever do Miss Lorna anything who do it will feel it back because nobody suppose to hurt this lady. All when you dead she come to you yard to look for you. Is like how she go and look for Sharon the one who them kill her two twin and her 15 year old daughter with baby inside her. She take Sharon to the North Coast to comfort her. Thank god for Miss Lorna.
