Spiritual Enrichment/Counseling Programme

Although education enhancement is the school’s primary focus, behavioral problems are common with a majority of students. Therefore, intervention into the lives of hopeless, disillusioned children and young adults in the form of counseling and spiritual guidance are also integral components of our curriculum.

A recent grant from the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) provides psychiatric and psychological evaluations of students to make a positive influence in the areas of personal development, self-esteem building, coping skills and conflict resolution. These activities, conducted by a three-member team from the University of the West Indies, will attempt to counter the violence, poverty and hopelessness with which students contend on a daily basis. The Family Life Ministries is also providing Christian counseling to these students

Many students who have been expelled or dropped from neighbourhood schools because of behavioural problems or poor academic performance have shown dramatic improvements in these areas after participating in spiritual enhancement and other counseling programmes. It is hoped that this input would represent a self-evolving pilot project that could be evaluated for possible replication in similar communities elsewhere in Jamaica
